Clover
decides to become a death doula in NY city after her grandfather dies alone in
his office. Her purpose is to ensure that no one leaves this world alone and
people usher peacefully through this world.
Clover spends so much time with her clients that she has no
personal life whatsoever and her free time is spent waiting for the next client,
until she meets Claudia. As Claudia recalls her life adventures, she ends up
sending clover on a road trip to uncover a forgotten love story—and perhaps,
her own happy ending. As she finds herself struggling to navigate the uncharted
roads of life and friendship, Clover is forced to examine what she really
wants, and whether she’ll have the courage to go after it.
What’s the point of giving someone a beautiful death if you
can’t give yourself a beautiful life?
Honestly, I thought this book would be too sad and not my
type. But it was actually so heartwarming and I am so glad I read it. the book
deals with a taboo subject of how many people have such lonely and terrifying
deaths, not surrounded by their loved ones, not in their sleep, not doing what
they love but instead working in their tiny cubicles, stressing over their
overdue projects, depressed about their social life. But the point is how many
of those people were actually living and how
many were just alive because they hadn’t died yet.
This book deserves 4 stars. A must read for the lovers of
Remarkably Bright Creatures. Also extra points for the extra pretty cover.
