The Housemaid & The Housemaid's Secret

I wasn’t expecting the housemaid’s secret to win the Goodreads best mystery of the year category but when it did, I couldn’t just not read it. I’ve read Frieda McFadden before and her thrillers are okay. Like I wasn’t impressed like I was with Alice Feeney or Benjamin Stevenson. But I decided to give this duology a try.

Millie is struggling to find a job. With her past, its difficult to move forward. When she finally lands a housemaid job, she vows to keep everything going perfectly but what she doesn’t know is that the job is no less than a nightmare from which you can never wake up. You may think why? What can happen in a house that is so scary? What’s the worst that could happen? Murder? God! No! the twist this novel pulls through midway will make you bawl.

Or may be not. It didn’t shock me much so meh. Although yes the way its written to cleverly deceive the reader till the very end, good. But I feel like the book was a bit silly??? Like it was grisly and traumatizing but also kinda goofy somehow??? Anyways, all in all the first book is good. You probably should read it if you want to get out of a reading slump.

Then comes the 2nd book which won the award. Your favorite housemaid is back this time but the plot is even more twisted than the first book. Still, it kinda felt rather ridiculous. I don’t know how it works.
