The Heiress

Little ruby McTavish’s disappearance caused a stir in the country. But the headlines didn’t stop there. It was unbelievable that the child of such prestigious family just got misplaced. What was more unbelievable was that little ruby was discovered a year later. The newspapers got a handful of McTavish’s as ruby married four times and each time her husband died under mysterious circumstances. But now ruby McTavish is herself dead. Even her death makes the front page because instead of leaving their family house to her sister, she leaves everything to her adopted son, Camden.

Camden doesn’t want to go back to Ashby house. He knows that the house will suck them in, will lure them away from the world, and ultimately there will be no escape. But her wife Jules sees the money, the property, the inheritance and forces Camden back to the place of horrors. Maybe its because she cares about her husband. Maybe its because she herself has a devilish secret to hide.

A gothic mystery with an eerie mansion. Wanna guess how it ends? Fire. Obviously. I’ve never read Rachel Hawkins before and I’m glad. Although the story was good, I would have enjoyed it a bit more if it had a few less curse words. God! How much does an average American swears in a single conversation? I don’t plan to read anymore Hawkins but you never know.
