This book is marvelous. When was the last time I was this excited for a book that is not a thriller? Yes, it's a mystery book and I love mystery books but it seems like the best mystery book I've read in ages??!!
First of all, let me tell you that I didn't read the first book, "Everyone in my family has killed someone", instead I directly jumped to this sequel, "Everyone in this train is a suspect". Why? I don't know. I have a thing for trains. Or more specifically books with trains. So as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to read it. Apparently it was one of the most anticipated books of 2024. Funny since I haven't heard much about the first book. Also it wasn't nominated on goodreads
Ernest Cunningham is back and this time he is on a luxurious train to Australian Mystery Writer's conference. A group of mystery writers invited across Australia to attend the conference are sequestered in the train. However an impromptu disaster awaits them.
A murder, of course. So 7 writers board the train. And only 5 leave alive. Fun? There's only one singular problem. All the writers on the train know how to get away with murder.
This book is chef's kiss. The best whodunnit of the decade. A website wrote its review as " Agatha Christie and Conan Doyle meet Thursday Murder Club and Knives Out ".
The only thing that I felt was left out was the last scene where the detective usually explains and solves everything. There was a "who", of course, there was a "why", obviously but what there wasn't was a "how". It is explained earlier how the killing is done but I think its too obvious. It should have been something like how did that happen? Who had excess to that murder weapon?? Where was everyone's alibis???
But honestly I'm not complaining about the best mystery story ever! The narration style is exceptional. It's the best one I've ever read.
If you haven't read it, just get this book and you're gonna have a time of your life. Also the book cover 💜🤌
