The Brother Hawthorne

Before I start to complain how this book has tortured me in so many different ways, I must tell you that I have loved and will always love the inheritance games trilogy. I love the Hawthorne brothers and I love the unexpected heiress picked up from the slums and I love the story no matter how much it went against my will.

Now coming towards this book……why???

The book solely focuses on the POV of Jameson and Grayson, trying to tie all the loose ends of the main story. Jameson finally reconciles with his estranged father but as it is expected, his father doesn’t reach out to his danger-is-my-middle-name son for the sake of him, instead a new game awaits our hero. A secret gambling house where players come to lose and this time the stakes are high; Jameson can’t afford to lose.

Grayson finds himself in a twisted puzzle with no one else but his own half-sisters. The precise, cold façade he adorns seems to tarnish and fall off as he discovers the kind of life his sisters lead and what could he be to them only if his late father hadn’t decided to shut him out of his life. Protecting his own identity from his family and keeping them away from the dangerous riddles that ultimately await them, Grayson discovers a new side to himself.

First of all, this could’ve easily been a novella. Half the book was just stretched too much. Also, weren’t the characters of Grayson and Jameson ought to have been improved? Then why did it feel like the two characters were somehow magically teleported from book 1?

Yes, Jameson lived for the adrenaline rush but I thought something might’ve changed after 3 whole books????? Also, I don’t want Grayson to permanently lose his dark, cold personality but somethings should’ve improved in the course of 3 books???????? Character development??? Where art thou????

Then, the book was…..bland. Simply put. I cannot point out the exact reason or the point at which everything seems disconnected and vapid but I can say….ya boring!

Boring! boring! boring!

The chemistry between Avery and Jameson also felt kinda off. And why is Grayson suffering this much??JLB! Grayson deserves better! The book also lacked the other important characters. There was so little Nash and Xander. Like I said, there was no need for this book. It should’ve been a side novella. Since I still feel like Jameson and especially Grayson’s arc is yet to be completed.

There IS another book coming next year. Let’s hope that our golden girl and the enigmatic brothers get the ending they deserve and we get the epilogue we need.
