A few years back, SPIDERMAN: Into
the Spider-verse became a heart throb with its world-wide success. The mesmerizing
picturization and the unique animation style set the bar quite high for the
next movie in the Spider-verse installments yet SPIDERMAN: Across the
Spider-verse was a block buster.
The movie picks us right where we left
it and we see the events happening exactly a year after the first movie. Gwen
Stacy a.k.a Spider woman is in trouble and runs away after her identity is
exposed. With the help of a secret spidey society, she reaches Miles Morales aka our Spiderman. Together both
of them gather a team of other spidermen from the multi verse to clean up the messes of the universe and to defeat an
enemy dangerous than anything they have ever faced before.
The concept of multiverse is
explored by many super heroes. It is explored in comic books, in DCU and in MCU
(Doctor Strange) quite occasionally. Yet
this version of multiverse is simply my favorite. The main theme of this movie
is to seize the chance and move forward with what’s in front of you. The story
narrates a coming-of-age tale and how we have to confront societal expectations
through the lens of the canon events. Tragedies are a recipe for goodness and
sometimes no matter how hard you try; you can’t fit it. But the real question
is do you actually have to fit in? Is being accepted worth sacrificing what you
believe in?
Another amusing and entertaining
aspect of these movies is how relatable Miles Morales (our protagonist) really
is. His reaction to various problems and his utter lack of confidence in the first
movie were the main factors behind the success of the story. The art of
storytelling has reached its peak in this films as we just automatically click
with Miles. His life like portrayal is the reason we were blessed with this master piece:
I actually really enjoyed the
portrayal of different spidermen. There is also an Indian spiderman who
protects Mambhattan. The two minutes screen time he has might be the best two
minutes of the movie. I would gladly pay to watch a 2 hour film of our Indian
Spidey just going about his business. His real enemy is traffic and he can get
hysterical when people say “chai tea”. Totally relatable for a South Asian.
Over all the movie is simply great. One of the bests ever made. The
story, the graphics, the animation. Its all worth your time.
