Fourth Wing (The Empyrean #1)

Violet Sorrengail has trained to be a scribe all her life; her dream is to live peacefully among the books and archives, the true heroes of the nation until her mother forces her to become a dragon rider and all her dreams and aspirations shatter like a house of glass.

Now Violet has to navigate her life through the ruthless war academy, making alliances and deciding who to trust. This is definetely not an easy task when a couple of students vow to kill you just because you are the General's daughter. Among them, she is specifically to avoid Xaden Riorson, the son of a rebel and the most powerful dragon rider in the academy.

All while worrying: would a dragon actually bond with her??

Because:

"A DRAGON WITHOUT ITS RIDER IS A TRAGEDY

A RIDER WITHOUT ITS DRAGON IS DEAD"

There are some books that I read because people recommend them to me and others because they have pretty covers that I can't resist. But I read this book for the sole reason:

When I was reading this book, I was greatly reminded of the dragons shown in the goblet of fire. Honestly initially I thought I was going to read a YA version of How to train your Dragon (ngl the idea is amazing) but  the more I read it the more I got convinced that this book is the YA fantasy of the year! The hype is real for this one. Usually fantasy books turn out to be a bit overrated and I end up abandoning them after the first few chapters but this book got me hooked. Believe me when I say,  you will not see the twists and turns coming.

The first 70% of the book is like Hogwarts but with dragon riders. I love Basgiath and it was probably my favorite part of the book. And now that I've read it, I think that this is one of those books which get converted into a Netflix adaptation and if you want to tell non-readers in a few years that " the book is considerably better", well than the time's now. A must read for every fantasy fan!!!!

A LITTLE BIT OF SPOILERS AHEAD!!

However I would've liked if the story remained inside Basgiath. A rebellion from within would've been so awesome but I'm sure our writer has something else in mind. Because the end of the Fourth Wing seemed like an end to our war academy but who knows? I just hope that the  books don't stretch too long and  become a draag after the first two just like it happened with the Red  Queen series. For those awaiting the second book, "Iron Flame", good news! The book comes out in November this year!
