Book review: Love & Gelato

Gelato:

Soft rich ice cream containing little air; Italian ice cream.

Love:

Strong affection and tenderness for others.

How do those two get together?

Carolina's world is turned upside down when her mother is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Her mother just has one last wish; for Carolina to live in Italy with her mother's best friend Howard.

What her mother doesn't tell her is that Carolina is going on a journey of a lifetime...and that Howard lives in a Cemetery.

In Italy Carolina finds a friend, a journal and a mystery. Using her journal, She discovers about her mother's life in Italy, and finds out that she had a far side that Carolina had never seen.

A YA classic, love and gelato narrates Carolina's story beautifully. Although the story seems a bit cliche yet the writing style makes it worth it. A bit sarcastic and a bit hilarious, the narration is absolutely remarkable and makes you want to read the whole thing again. This is one of those few ya books that had me gripped from the first sentence. The start was just kind of tempting. And as I read more and more, it just got better and better. Totally worth it.

Moreover you get to see Italy from the eyes of the protagonist. Florence seems like heaven. And of course love seems to be a bonus point in the story.

Now only one thing remains to be decided by both Carolina and us:

Why stay in Italy?

For gelato? Or for love?
