Got into a Reading block?!

Once in a while, there comes a time when you are hit with such a forceful distaste for everything that even your favorite hobby seems stressful. That is when you get a reading block. It is either this or when you read a super duper marvelous ultimate book and nothing else seems to be suitable for your high standard anymore.

Whatever the reason is, reading block is something that annoys everyone to hell. The inability to read a book when you want to read a book is simultaneously frustrating and irksome.

So here is a list of a few books that have helped me get out of my reading stupor and back to my routinely reading.

1. The Cousins

Mildred Story disinherited all her children and forbade them from setting foot on their island shortly after the death of her husband.

The reason? Nobody knows. All explanation that was provided was a single letter with a single line," you know what you did".

Fast forwarding 24 years, Mildred sends letters to all her grandchildren, inviting them to work at her resort in summer.

And now its upto Milly, Aubrey and Jonah to find out why their parents were banished from their own home and what actually happened 24 years ago. Although it is not easy to hunt secrets when you have to hide your own too.

The story is captivating but I may warn you that the plot twist was quite gruesome and grisly. At least from my perspective.

All of Karen McManus' books are an instant remedy for reading blocks. Her YA mysteries get you going. But out of all the books I have read, "The Cousins" is the best one.

Yes, her books do come with some plot holes and flaws, but the element of mystery usually covers up for them.

2. The House across the Lake

If you think a supernatural thriller will help you get out of your reading crisis, then "The House across the Lake" will be an excellent read. Casey Fletcher finds herself in trouble when she takes up on spying on her neighbours. When she suspects that her neighbours' husband is trying to kill his wife, she can't help but dive head first into the situation.

The book gets more sinister with every page turn and you will get glued to this thriller in no time.

3. Eleanor and Park

Want to experience butterflies in your stomach with something cute and sweet? Read "Elenore and Park".

The main theme of the book is that " you will never forget your first love". This coming of age ya story will surely help you to get back to your reading schedule.

4. Sorcery of Thorns/ An enchantment of Ravens

Into fantasies? I got your back. "Sorcery of thorns" may not be as good as "Cruel Prince" but its definitely better than most cheesy fantasies out there. With a novella sequel( mysteries of thorn manor) the book is an excellent escape plan from the miseries of reality.

Another fantasy which will make your heart flutter is "An enchantment of Ravens". The autumn prince is going to be one of your memorable characters.

5. The Hacienda/ Mexican Gothic

I think the best way to break a reading block is to read horror, gothics or thrillers.

As to horror, "The Hacienda" will give you goosebumps with a little too attractive priest and overall gothic vibes.

"The Mexican Gothic" is also a great read with its "jane eyre meets rebecca" vibes. Overall both of these books are worth reading especially when you want to take a break from your dull and monotonous routine.

Hope this list helps!
