Book review: The Thirteenth Tale

Margaret Lea has never read Vida Winter but when she receives an invitation to write the world renowned writer's biography, she is compelled to read her best work, "Thirteen tales of change and desperation" and just like the rest of the world is awed by the twelve tales but simultaneously is curious about a missing thirteenth one.

Over the years Miss Winter has gained fame by creating exceptional stories about her origin, succeding in hiding it from the globe.

But now she wants to tell the truth for once and all, and for this task she chooses Margaret Lea.

As the story unravels we learn about the story of the Angel fields, the two eerie twins, the family ghost, a life changing fire that indicates the beginning of Vida Winter.

The book captures the reader and binds them with the characters. The story is somewhat dark, gothic mystery and will have you laughing and crying with progress. If you are a fan of "Wuthering Heights" and "Jane Eyre" like me, you are totally going to love it!

"Once upon a time there was a fairy godmother, but the rest of the time there was none. This story is about one of those other times."

-Diane Setterfield, The Thirteenth Tale
